Stroid is a retro-synth space shooter for iPhone® about destroying hazards from the outer orbits of increasingly alien planets. Players navigate thirty exospheres, attempting to clear each of dangers, whilst avoiding satellites and collecting ore for upgrades and power ups. Stroid isn't a frenetic space shooter, but something that could be called gentle arcade, demanding forethought to navigate tricky levels but also possessing a hypnotic quality with its kaleidoscopic visuals and audio.
Inspired by a Unity3D tutorial, Vlambeer's Ridiculous Fishing and a longheld desire to create games, Stroid is the first title from Matt Sawrey. Stroid's premise and action came from a desire to learn the fundamentals of game design through a simple yet challenging idea. And the game's colourful, angular art style is intended to create a cohesive, appealing world despite limited time and resources.
- Hypnotic, colourful visuals and an infectious synth soundtrack.
- Simple tilt and tap controls with addictive arcade action.
- Five planets that go well out of this solar system.
- One of them is called Jeff!
- Three Stroid variants to unlock and upgrade alongside three thunderous power ups.
